TEMPLE, libro de mormon, and necesidades

Well let me just start with our little adventure to the temple…
yes we woke up a 3 in the morning again and then elder hernandez said that he thought it was on Friday so we had no way to get to the cruze to meet with the rest of our zone… well God is awesome and wanted us to go to the temple and sent a guagua to us to take to the cruze so we could go!!! YAY! Let me just say–I love the temple. We didn’t get home till after five pm and it counted for our p-day, so we took a 20 min nap and headed out to teach. It was a crazy awesome day and i was so tired… bc I couldn’t sleep on the extremely uncomfortable guagua.

We went to the temple with the question of whether or not to change Wilkins’ date bc we just felt he wasn’t quite ready, so all in all we decided to change it to give him more learning time and time to apply it. So April 11th it is now. He seemed a little overwhelmed too, so changing it will help him really grow in his testimony.

My LDM tema (theme) is humility and caridad (charity) and I am trying to develop these characteristics and oh my goodness God is great, and is humbling and making me realize I do not have very much charity–which is awesome I am learning and growing!

Well this week we had some good lessons with people, our theme this month is finding necesidades (needs) and we have figured out why Ruben wouldn’t go to church– bc he wants his family to go with him… well the same thing for another menos activo family too.

We also met this kid last week who was over where we were teaching Delfia and we met with him this week and he already has a date. He is super bright and has so many questions, he is quite the challenge, his name is Francis and he has 19 years. Well I just want to answer all his questions but I have to be patient a little and so does he bc everything needs to be explained in a process.

Well needless to say I was grateful for p-day after a tiresome week but I am so ready to get out and work tomorrow!

Love you all and hope the week goes well.

Holland, Libro de Mormon y Huish Family

Saludos Querido Familia y Amigos,

This week has been quite a week; full of learning and wonderful experiences.

As you all know, the mission had the oportunidad to meet all in the capital and hear from Elder Jeffery R. Holland. Yes, it was awesome!!!  To start, he entered and said he wanted to greet each of us, know our name and where we are from. Sitting on the end, ready to lead, I was able to be the FIRST missionary to shake his hand!!! It was honestly so fun to watch him interact so personally with every missionary, some 240 of us and some kids from the CCM. He told us he just had an interview with each one of us and we are doing well.
We started the conference and Elder Holland had to step out briefly to report to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and First Presidency, seeing how we met at the exact same hour they meet in the temple. So we heard from President y Hermana… then Elder Holland spoke to us and talked about being a missionary. He said that this is the “REAL LIFE” and there is no turning back. What we put in is what we get out, so we need to go in the deep end and serve. We are working for the salvation of souls!
He also talked a lot about being missionaries then talked about how Christ is the cornerstone of the Church while The Book of Mormon is the keystone. We need to teach from The Book of Mormon, almost every single page testifies of Christ (even and especially the Isaiah parts).

In honor of Elder Holland the mission will be reading the LDM (El Libró de Mormón) in 100  days, starting today! What Elder Holland does is 1) starts reading his scriptures, 2) marks them and 3) gives them away. So we are each reading a new LDM with a topic or idea in mind, looking for and marking this topic, and then giving it away to someone. So excited! I’m not exactly sure what topic I am going to study yet but probably a Christ-like Attribute, I have some in mind. If y’all would like to join us you are welcome to!

That same day we had time for a few lessons. One of them being with Ruben and man, it was a good one. He is super flojo in his scripture study so we talked about The Book of Mormon. Hna Graham and I testified and man, was the Spirit strong! Afterwards he actually shared his testimony of The Book of Mormon. Never have I EVER heard him bear his testimony.  What a cool moment. I dont know when he will be active or when he will decide but I truly believe that he will return. That lesson showed that yes, The Book of Mormon is a very good place to start.

To finish up The Book of Mormon stuff: I invite all of you to read it from the start and choose a topic to study or read it for someone. I know that as you do this your relationship with Christ will grow and your love for the book and the restored gospel will grow.  This is the evidence of all that I know to be true. I hope you each may find the same joy and knowledge that I have as you start this challenge.

Ok, Wilkin… He is hilarious and is really starting to change. We walked up the other day and he was painting his nails. Don’t ask me why but he thought it was fun. ¡Ay mi madre! haha Nevertheless, I’m really excited for his baptism as well as a little nervous. His desire is sincere but we are struggling a little with his learning difficulties. We would appreciate some extra prayers! Thanks.

I saw the Huish family yesterday and they are super sweet! It was fun to see them and take a few pictures and talk for a few minutes. ALSO, thank you for the package!!! I haven’t opened the wrapped stuff except for the tape… it’s so cute!

Tomorrow we are off to the temple! Woot woot! I love waking up at 3 in the morning… 😛 but I really do love the temple and I really am excited.

Con amor,

Hermana Johnson

Carnaval, Cachua y Diligencia‏

Buenas a todos!

Well to be honest I started typing in Spanish and… yeah I had to erase that, haha!

Thanks to your inspiration last week I decided to take another look at the Christ-like attributes.  I had been working on one but forgot all about it so it was time to start new.  I decided on diligence.  Well, you hear the word and don’t think much of it, but man, do I lack diligence right now.   Diligence, I have realized this week, really is something that doesn’t mean that we aren’t doing things, it just means we aren’t doing the little things: just being  a little more punctual or just trying a little harder. And right now, I am being humbled by God bc I have decided that.

To start, we went to a capacitation (training) for the trainers and trainees.  It was really good (seeing how i only went to part of mine) and also just to help me learn.   Needless to say it really put my mind into perspective and God definitely is humbling me and letting me grow!  Sweet! I’ll take it, but it does not make my life easier!  Just  new challenges and new excitement.

Speaking of capacitation, it was in Azua.  After eating with everyone we headed out that morning, we seriously waited for our gua gua (van/taxi) for 2 HOURS –ay mi madre! Then when it came it was full to the brim–literally they could not fit another person on it people were hanging out the door.    Don’t worry, we didn’t think you parents would appreciate if we did that so we waited for the next gua gua to Barahona and got off the cruze and caught a bola! Man, was that a weird day!

Ok my favorite menos activo now.. Fernanda! She is seriously so cute and darling.  She is 16 and lives with her grandparents and she loves to visit with us.  Also we are starting to teach her friend who seems to have interest.   I will just have to send a pic to show you how darling she is!  I will miss her when I leave.

Independence Day was the 27th, this last Friday, and they call it carnaval.  All the little kids dress up in costumes and go to the park to play and the parents go to drink.  The boys dress up like a chachua or monster like things.  I sent a pic of them, they’re hard to describe. hehe

We have 4 weeks until wilken gets baptized and he is super excited! but oh we have a ton to teach him still!!

Les amo!
